What is Life Coaching?

It is partnering with a client who desires to make a powerful change in some area of his/her life that is not responding to self help.  It is taking a person from where they are to where they want to be.

How does a coach make a difference?

  • Partners with you: A personal life coach works with you as you purposefully pursue excellence in an area in which you struggle.
  • Offers objectivity: A coach offers objective observations to help identify your strengths and challenges.
  • Delivers powerful questioning: Through powerful questions a coach brings clarity to what you are seeking and helps you find answers to your challenges.
  • Creates new paradigms: A coach creates new paradigms that offer choices to reach your goals.
  • Equips you: A coach equips you with the skills required to achieve what you desire.
  • Requires accountability: Sometimes painful but so necessary, accountability to a coach transforms goals on paper into reality.
  • Motivates you: This is possibly the most important element. Positive motivation will enable you to take the next step towards reaching your goals.

So why would I hire a life coach?

These are some reasons a person hires a personal life coach

  • If you feel discontentment
  • If you are “stuck” and can’t get “unstuck” in some area
  • If you realize you need someone or something beyond your own capabilities
  • If you know that there is more, but harnessing it seems impossible

Why can’t I coach myself?

Have you ever attended a powerful seminar and come away inspired and determined to make and reach new goals, only to find yourself a few weeks later left with good intentions sitting idle on your desk? All of us have. You see, Coaching oneself usually falls short because it is difficult to hold ourselves accountable.

A coach provides…

  • a sounding board
  • a second opinion,
  • another perspective
  • motivation
  • accountability

Coaches are trained to listen for your passion, ask powerful questions, and impart motivation and encouragement for their client.

Whats the difference between Life Coaching and Counseling/Therapy?

  • Therapy generally deals with emotional/behavioral problems and disruptive situations. It seeks to bring the client to normal function by focusing on his dysfunction.
  • Counseling, similar to Therapy, deals mostly with problems of the past, which are causing problems in the present. The focus is to help the client see how the past and present are connected and work through this relationship.
  • Coaching deals with an emotional healthy person who desires to move forward in order to create a richer life or pursue a specific goal. Coaching helps the client create a life that is purposeful and focused. Coaching fuses the present with the future.

How much time will it take?

Coaching sessions are usually once a week and last for 30 to 45 minutes. How often we meet is a choice made by the client. The commitment to achieve the desired goals by the client determines the duration of coaching. It has been our experience that for any change to occur a minimum of three months is required; lasting changes require more time. The client has the final determination.

What does it cost?

Summit Life Coaching employs a sliding scale dependent upon how often the client wants to be coached. In general, coaching sessions are held two to four times per month with the cost ranging between $150.00 and $500.00 per month.

What is telephone coaching?

Some clients are finding that phone coaching is much more convenient to work into their schedules and just as productive. We Skype or conference call with clients before work, on lunch breaks, and after work hours. Without the driving time to and from, an hour session truly takes just an hour from your day and at your convenience. Contact Us to discuss this possibility.
